Industrial Design Competitions

İMMB Industrial Design Competition is an annual competition where both student and professional level industrial design projects are evaluated and awarded. The competition is organized and supported by Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exportes Association, Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Product Exporters Association, Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters Association, Istanbul Electric-Electronic, Machine and Informatics Exporters Association, TİM and Ministry of Economy, and Industrial Designers Professional Organization (ETMK). The competition which started in 2005 is receiving greater number of applications in greater variety each year. More than 3300 project applications were received and more than 300 designers were awarded various prizes in the competition which was very well received in the past 10 years. 

In addition to the monetary awards, the winning designers are hosted at the Ambiente Fair in Frankfurt which is considered to be one of the most prestigious fairs in the cooking utensils industry with all costs covered by our Association. Furthermore, they benefit from a 2 year overseas education program including free tuition and living expenses with the Ministry of Economy quota alloted for competition winners. 

The jury for the competition which took place on 22 February 2014 consisted of world reknown local and foreign designers and senior executives of top local and international industry brands. Utmost care is used in project evaluations where nicknames are used as project IDs so that objectivity and professionalism is secured.

At the Awards Ceremony on 19 March 2014, a total of 212.000 TRY monetary awards were distributed to the winning projects in 4 main categories; Industrial Cooking Utensils, Rattan Patterned Plastic Product Sets, Electric Iron Design for Environmental Sustainability, and Design for Mindful Toys.  

Before the competition, several seminars and workshops were given to the participants for the "Design for Environmental Sustainability" and Toy Design” categories by Prof. Dr. Hakan Gürsu ve Hakan Diniz covering topics on design processes and new product development methods.

More than 200 people participated in theseseminars which were organized in cities of İstanbul, Ankara and Kayseri 5 consecutive times.

Association plans to continue similar activities in the years to come to continue supporting young designers, to contribute to the development of industrial design in Turkey, to help introduce new design products to the industry and to create ways for our designers to meet with the Turkish industrialists.
